What is KDROI?

KDROI (Keyword Difficulty Return on Investment) is a formula we created to help you identify keywords that are actually worth targeting. Instead of looking at volume, CPC, and difficulty separately, KDROI combines them into a single, actionable score.

The Formula

KDROI = (Volume × CPC) / (KD + 1)

Higher KDROI = Better opportunity. The formula rewards keywords with high traffic potential (volume) and commercial value (CPC), while penalizing keywords that are hard to rank for (KD).

KDROI Range	Rating	What It Means
2,000+	Super Opportunity	Drop everything and target this keyword
1,000 - 1,999	Excellent	Highly profitable, worth significant effort
500 - 999	Good	Solid opportunity, especially for established sites
100 - 499	Fair	Consider as supporting content, not primary target
< 100	Low Priority	Usually not worth the effort unless very strategic

The "mortgage calculator" keyword has a higher raw KDROI, but the KD of 78 means you'd need years of SEO work to rank. "Business loan calculator" has a lower score but is actually achievable for a new site. Always consider KD alongside KDROI.
